Nitrile rubber can tolerate short term dry running of the sealing lip. The operating temperature range without failure of nitrile rubber is 40 to +100 C. The purple may be harder to see on cloudy days - as I had on sunglasses and I could see it, but the fence at the court has a "privacy" net, it kinda bleneded in for a very brief moment until the sound was heard of the return, then no problem.
